Friday, April 25, 2008
DAYTON — Two men were taken into custody about 1 a.m. Friday, April 25, when they crashed into the rear of a tanker truck while fleeing from police on Interstate 75, police said. The same vehicle was stolen in a Thursday evening carjacking at 301 Geyer St., according to Sgt. Dennis Chaney of the Dayton police.
Chaney said the men who were taken into custody were being interviewed Friday, but it had not been determined if they were involved in the Thursday carjacking. He did not release the men's names.

Chaney said the carjacking occurred Thursday evening, and police spotted the missing car after midnight. Officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver refused and drove onto the highway in an attempt to escape.
Police deployed spiked sticks to flatten two of the car's tires, but the vehicle continued on.
Eventually the fleeing driver lost control and struck the back of a gas tanker truck and then came to rest against a highway guardrail.
Chaney said police will meet with prosecutors after interviewing the suspects to design what formal charges should be filed.
