Below is the text of an e-mail sent today by Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann to all associates of his office.
All —
Extras
Last night, I received a call from Governor Strickland advising me that he and the other statewide Democratic office holders along with the minority leaders of the House and Senate were planning to ask me to resign today.
That letter has been sent.
I wanted to share with you what I told the Governor.
I told him that he and the other officeholders, as well as the members of the legislature, should continue to expect that we will continue to provide high-quality legal services to all of them. I told the Governor that we will continue to make our law enforcement partnerships work to protect the people of the State of Ohio.
I told him that our consumer protection and environmental protection and civil rights work will continue on behalf of the State of Oho
That is exactly what I am doing today. I am in the office, have rolled up my sleeves and am working on behalf of the people of State of Ohio.
I hope all of you will do the same.
I think that there is a great chance that we can continue to do great work for the people of the State.
I know that this is difficult, and I am truly sorry to have put all of you in this position.
But our work is too important to do anything but our jobs today.

The Dayton Daily News editorial calling on Dann to resign was really a lazy article - the whole meat of the story, and the justification for resigning, was nothing more than listing the headlines as if the headlines were a verdict - and the truth. We had Congressional hearings over baseball players taking steroids and how these “heros” are setting such a bad example for our kids-something must be done!. But an Attorney General’s actions are just human frailty - how bizarre is this?

“Public Trust” doesn’t amount to much anymore with politicians. When will you politicians get it? You don’t screw off on the job, literally or figuratively. At least we can expect the Attorney General to have a little common sense and keep it in his pants when he is in the office. But, hey, if the precedent has been set with the President, then this doesn’t see so bad, no does it?

Not much to do in Ohio except fornicate in high places. The Wright Brothers left. They were working on becoming the first members of “The Mile High Club”. Dann’s statement really said: ” I am in Jennifer Utovich’s “office”, have rolled up my sleeves, unzipped my pants, and I’m working her on behalf of the people of The State of Ohio.” What’s the problem? Ohioans are ardent “Clintonista’s”, unemployed, vote Democrat/Moveon.org, and you wonder why you have problems? Dann doesn’t see any.

Lets look at what happened during Dann’s watch. Gutierrez his friend and roommate sexually harassed two different women transferring one after his advances were rejected and giving the other a purple dildo as a gift. Then there is Ed Simpson who sexually harassed women as well in the office. If that’s not enough Leo Jennings tried to get people to lie to cover this up. This speaks to an office run poorly and Dann should take responsibility for his inability to run an office.

I myself do not enjoy paying taxes and some of my taxes go to the salaries of rif raf. Ohio hired none of these people to go to the office to screw or prepare for screwing after hours. Marcie boy needs to set aside. What is good for the goose (the girls and boys that were fired) is good for the gander.

Someone please explain to me how a person who has not commited a crime can be impeached but another person who has been convicted (Taft) of a crime can remain in office? I’m not condoning what he did but I just don’t get how everyone wants to go after him over a personal matter when they ignored the fact that Bob Taft actually broke the law.

Dann did nothing that Bill Clinton didn’t do. Compared to the New York governor’s scandal, Dann’s transgression is nothing at all. We have to remember that all men(and women) are frail, and whether President or ditch digger,we are all descendents of those who lost paradise for us all. Dann is still the enforcer of the Ohio Code and constitution, and it shouldn’t matter how human such an officer is for him (or her) to be able to serve the people who elected him.

Lets see if I have this right. This man is supposed to be in charge of Law & Order, and doesnt know what he did was wrong or Right? No wonder this State is going backward. We have all these people in Government, & not a soul knows which direction they are going? Excuse me, but if this State is in Financial STRAITS, perhaps we should fire them all, & let the State run itself, we would still have confusion, but look at the money the State would save. Talk about Dumb & Dumber. Damn right he should

Neither Jon Husted nor Marc Dann were concerned about constitutionality issues when they violated the rights of 30,000 Ohio citizens in pushing flawed the Adam Walsh Act laws through. Good luck getting Jon Husted to do anything “right” as he is a coward and will not stand up against wrong. Both these guys usurped due process, separation of powers and double jeopardy provisions of the Ohio and US Constitutions in enacting these draconian laws. See www.constitutionalfights.org for info

This is similar to the Mad River rape case involving a young girl who passed out at a party and was raped by a fellow classmate. As a victim of sexual abuse, I believe that any person guilty of rape or any sexual misconduct should be punished to the fullest extent. My advocacy is NOT on the side of the rapist, but on the side of young women and men to value themselves enough to make better choices and not put themselves in situations where they may become victims.

Todd: I do not blame Dann’s actions on the 26-year girl. He was irresponsible, and as I said in my earlier posting, should resign. However, it doesn’t mean young women shouldn’t be responsible in their choices as well. There is a lot of sexual harassment and rape that doesn’t get addressed. I am in management, and have spent the last five years trying to avoid my boss’ office. If he asked me to come to his apartment for drinks, I would know better as any woman who values her mind and body would.

Of course he should resign. Look at the company he keeps. His roommates and friends have all resigned or been fired. He brought these men with him and hoped it would be one big party at taxpayers expense. Now he has the arrogance to say he’s there to work. Now?! He is there to work at a position that he is not prepared for. It is obvious that he wants the priveleges of power but no responsiblity. Remember the family man that has to fly home (at taxpayers expense)to see his kids ball games.

J/Alice -You do an injustice to all women when you take this “blame the victim” approach. When a 26 year-old who has just started a job gets a call from the attorney general of the state asking her to come over, it’s hard for me to fathom anyone laying the blame on the young woman. Your comments make me sad for all women victims who are unfairly subjected to baseless accusations that blame them when the real culprits are people like Marc Dann and his despicable cronies. Shame on you.

Dann is apparently a classless fat slob who can only get laid by intimidating subordinates. He and his buddies are pathetic losers who should share a prison cell instead of an apartment. This idiot doesn’t have the class to resign, but instead will drag the taxpayers through an expensive impeachment process. I would encourage Republicans and Democrats to proceed with cleaning that cesspool so that maybe the citizens will have competent and somewhat moral people running for office in the future.

Sure I think Dann should go, but there is a double standard here. Dann hasn’t been convicted of a crime. When our former Governor was convicted of a crime, he was allowed to remain in office. Perhaps this is a sign that Democrats take things like this more seriously than Republicans.
By Wendell

Yes, unless he’s impeached first, but Dann seems to want ethical standards equal to that of convicted felons and illegal aliens. Dann should find comfort in knowing that one of the Supreme Court justices (Resnick?) got away (with committing the felony of?) disobeying a State Highway Patrol officer and continued to drive with under the influence while being pursued. Lawyers (serving Ohioans or themselves?) will require a VERY HIGH level of misbehavior to impeach.

First of all, yes, I think Dann should resign, and then we should thank him for giving the poor republicans something to crow about. They have been the embattled and downtrodden for the last eight years with only the Clinton scandal to keep regurgitating every time one of their own fell through the cracks (like a sex scandal every week). Now they have something new to gnaw on for awhile.

Gov. Strickland has a double-standard here. When he was a congressman, he stated the Bill Clinton should not step down for his actions. Clinton’s actions were far worse than Dann. Clinton lied under oath, and Dann told exactly what happened and fessed up to it. Gov. Strickland, your actions bother me. How much Clinton brown do you have on your nose? You don’t appear to be fair to Dann in this matter.

He should resign if not, he will face the possibility of impeachment = he can never run for office again in Ohio. Some would say that is a good thing. Bottom line, both parties are out of control, and for any partisan of either to assert theirs is better than the other is simply ignoring facts. Perhaps the solution is to explore another party and start with a new political machine rather than rely on the same old with a different face?

They had a choice to go to his apartment and they knew what they were getting themselves into. There are plenty of genuine cases of sexual harassment that need to be addressed; I am in a management position and have spent the last five years trying to avoid my boss’ office. Where is the responsibility of the women in this case? Yes, I feel that Dann should resign. He did, and allowed, some truly heinous actions. However, you don’t text message a friend complaining about harassment, you go to HR. If you feel uncomfortable around someone, don’t go partying with them! Dann should not have to apologize for “not getting her a safe ride home” after she drank so much she passed out.Come on honey, be a big girl and don’t get in that situation. My questions is why do all those playboys get $100,000 to $150,000 for what they do. They didn’t get there because they were highly qualified. It was some kind of reward don’t ya think?Did you notice that all the women each made less than $30,000. What does that mean? Vicki- Get your facts straight and quit bashing Strickland. The investigative report was made public on Friday afternoon and Strickland called for his resignation on Monday morning. That certainly isn’t waiting 2 weeks. Dann’s a joke and should go away, but do not compare him to Strickland. Sorry, but it is not time for Dann to resign, he deserves more. The House and Senate should impeach him and have his “Law” license revoked. All the talk of his immoral acts and his allowing sexual harrassment in his own apartment, as well as in the workplace, are enought to send him back to Youngstown. But maybe we should also look at the big pay raise and promotion he provided to his mistress. That should be a criminal act.

I thought this governor ran his campaign that he was not going to have a corrupt administration, yet he didn’t ask Dann to step down until the citizens started to make a stink about it. This can be explained away and forgotten with a properly run cover up and made up attack (lie)on a Republcan, run by your Clintons or Barack Hussien Obama’s campaign. You may all recall not long ago voting for our current state leadership instead of Ken Blackwell, who was probably the most qualified person ever to seek the office of Governor in Ohio history. Blackwell was hurt by the poor performance of the former Governor, who had been elected only because people recognized his name. Frankly, in Ohio, we deserve whatever we get as long as voters choose to remain totally uneducated on issues and individuals running for public office.

The man needs to step aside. God knows, he’s not the first politician to commit adultery, but for an attorney, the lead attorney of the entire state, to permit male staff members to behave this way, in the office and at his own place of residence, is unbelievable. It pays to be paranoid, because even if this is just a case of a disgruntled ex getting back at an office mate who dumped her, he made it possible by bringing it to his residence.

Spent time discussing policy with him before and he doesn’t know what his policy really is!!!) I can’t bad mouth the treasurer’s office yet. So at least one Democrat is spared in this post. Granted, the Taft did his fair share of dumb stuff, but the Dems are treating Ohio as their own toilet and crapping on us all

Wow—Sherrod Brown telling Marc Dann to resign. With all the skeletons Senator Brown has in and out of his closet, that took a pair on Brown’s part to sign this letter.

It’s only sex. What a bunch of hypocrites. Clinton had sex with a subordinate and lied to the grand jury. There was’t a hand full of Dems calling for him to resign.

Resign oh yes, yesterday! However, there is a job for him in Butler County. If he lives down to his “name”.

All of the signs were there about Marc if the voters or the media would have taken the time to vet him appropriately. Unfortunately Betty Montgomery was dragged down by Taft and even the media was surprised that she lost. If the election had been closer, perhaps the media would have reviewed his professional record a little closer. Who am I kidding? All the major Ohio papers except one endorsed him. Duh!

Wheres the justice, Gov. Strickland was quick to fire two Ohio State Patrolman for sending a personal message to each other ie, kkk picture. Now here is the top law enforcement officer in this state commiting much worse injustice and he still has a job. Again where is the justice.

Kudos to Gov. Strickland for his actions on this issue. I am a republican who was sick of the corruption with the previous administration. I however have been a supporter of Gov. Strickland. I did not feel Mr. Dann should have even been elected. After seeing Mr. Danns’ comments this past week I think I was right. Keep up the good work Gov.

Wow, what a Profile in Courage. Took our Governor what, two weeks to make up his mind on something that was obvious to the entire State of Ohio? Hmm, me thinks some poll results came in this weekend.

I think he should resign. I am so exasperated because I am a Democrat and I expected better. What is it about public office that makes people act so stupid? And how are we supposed to make things better when the people we trust to do that can’t focus on their job because they’re screwing around. I used to think it was a hypocritical Republican thing, but with Spitzer and now Dann, I’m thinking Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot.

I’m a democrat who wanted to believe someone could clean up the corruption we have seen in Ohio. However, instead of making any progress, Dann added to it, in spades. He unequivably needs to resign and if not, then the House of Reps needs to immediately go for an impeachment.

It seems like the platform that Dann ran on…cleaning up the corruption from the previous administration…is the very thing that exists today. I think the non-reported vehicle damages and the improper relationships with staff members are just the tip of the iceberg. Dann needs to set his ego aside and step aside immediately. My feelings aren’t based on party affiliation either, as I typically vote the democratic ticket, but am sickened by Dann and his Youngstown cronies.

Yes, I think he should resign. And the sooner, the better.
