Ellison was walking near 1920 West Grand Ave. when he was confronted by a man asking for money, according to a police report.
He refused to cooperate and was shot multiple times in the torso and lower body. His fiance, whose name is not known, ran from the scene, Williams said.
It is the second time in six months Ellison has been assaulted and robbed, according to police files. In January he was beaten during the altercation, Williams said.
