CLAYTON — A Dayton woman struck and killed a stray horse with her car early Wednesday morning, May 21, on North Diamond Mill Road, according to Lt. Dave Potts of the Clayton police.
Velma Thorpe, 19, was driving north on in the 8400 block of North Diamond Mill Road about 1:30 a.m. when she spotted a pair of horses in the roadway ahead, Potts said. She swerved to avoid the first horse but hit the second, causing it to roll over the hood of her car.
Extras
Potts said the horses belong to a nearby residence on North Diamond Mill Road, and their owners said they escaped from a field when someone cut through the fence holding the horses in. The horse that was struck was dead when police arrived, and the other was returned to its owners.
Thorpe's car was heavily damaged, but she received only minor injuries, Potts said. The woman went on foot to a nearby residence to call police.
Potts said he doesn't expect anyone to be cited in the incident.
