Speed a factor in serious crash, police say

DAYTON — Police are looking for witnesses who can help explain why a Miamisburg man lost control of his car on Shoup Mill Road on Wednesday evening, May 21, leading to his passenger being ejected and suffering critical injuries.
Mohammed D. Omari, 24, of West Carrollton remained in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital on Thursday morning. He was thrown from the car driven by Mohammed Mustafa Ramadan, 21, of Miamisburg, when the car crashed.
Lt. Matt Carper of the Dayton police said Ramadan was driving east on Shoup Mill Road at about 7 p.m. apparently at a high rate of speed when he lost control and the car started skidding sideways. The car struck the curb at the south side of the street, went airborne and flipped before coming to rest against a tree at 1437 Needmore Road.
A witness told the Dayton Daily News the car may have been involved in a drag race, but Carper said that has not been verified.
"It's still in the early stages of the investigation, but it's clear that speed was a factor," Carper said. He asked that anyone with information about the accident call Det. Mark Davis at 333-1104.
