OXFORD — The Miami University football player accused of assaulting a female student thought he was in his dorm room after a night of drinking, his attorney said Monday, June 2.
Zachary S. Marshall, 21, of Mason has been suspended from campus, charged with aggravated burglary, burglary and assault stemming from incidents in Havighurst Hall on May 21, attorney Robert Peeler said.

After twice entering an unlocked room of a male student, police said, Marshall entered an unlocked room of the female and assaulted her while she was asleep.
Peeler said his client had been drinking, entered the woman's room and "flopped down on the bed," thinking it was his own. "He jumped up immediately and left the room. This kid is a gentle giant. He wouldn't hurt an ant."
Marshall, a 6-foot-7, 289-pound junior offensive lineman for the RedHawks, was confused because he had moved into the dorm two days before the incidents. He has apologized by letter to the female through MU, Peeler said.
Arraignment is Thursday, June 5.
