Dann's poor driving record stands out

Staff Writer

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

Marc Dann is a lousy driver. He even admits it. And state records back it up: 17 traffic tickets and four accidents to his name since 1998.

Speeding in Circleville. Crashing in Youngstown. Driving unbuckled in Chardon. Tailgating in Mansfield.

Extras

And keep in mind Dann rarely drove himself anywhere for the last 15 months since as attorney general he had a driver.

Until he resigned May 14, Dann held the record for tickets and accidents among top state officeholders. Treasurer Richard Cordray is the new leader with six tickets over the past decade.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Moyer has two accidents and two tickets on his record. House Speaker Jon Husted, R-Kettering, has three tickets and one accident on his record. Auditor Mary Taylor has two speeding tickets and an accident on her record.

Gov. Ted Strickland, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, Senate President Bill Harris and Attorney General Nancy Hardin Rogers, who replaced Dann, each have one ticket.

Except for Taylor, all the politicians are listed as organ donors on their drivers' licenses.

Now that Dann is back home, going about his business, the good people of the Mahoning Valley might want to take note: the former attorney general no longer has a state driver to shuttle him from place to place.
