DAYTON — A man faces two counts of felonious assault after he shot a uniformed Dayton police officer in the shoulder early Monday, June 23.
Officer Darrell Herron was at a vacant house in the 200 block of Henry Street about 1:10 a.m. checking a complaint involving a breaking and entering, Sgt. Chris Williams said.
As Herron jiggled the door knob, Clarence A. Pauley, 72, came out of a side door of the neighboring house and shot Herron.
Herron was wearing a bullet proof vest, but was exposed at the shoulders. He was treated and released at Miami Valley Hospital.
"I am not going to comment on his motive for shooting a police officer," Williams said.
Pauley was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
