DAYTON — A 54-year-old man was beaten to death Thursday night with almost all the injuries he sustained coming from being kicked repeatedly by another man, according to Dayton police.

Police responded to a report of a beating at 9:22 p.m. concerning one man beating another in the face at 5010 Woodbine Ave., Apartment C, said Sgt. Kelly Hamilton.

When police arrived, they found James J. Weddington in the upstairs apartment, the room messy and covered with blood.

The man was alive when he was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, but was pronounced dead at the hospital, said Dayton Sgt. Moises Perez.

The dead man did not live at the apartment, but he and the suspect were friends as witnesses reported seeing them in the neighborhood together, Perez said. He said drinking may have triggered the incident.

The suspect, who is age 50, was being questioned at police headquarters late Thursday night.

Police did not release the name of the suspect.
