DAYTON — Doctors are trying to save the leg of a man who was shot while getting his hair cut on Tuesday, July 1.

Roy Bettison, 28, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital after he suffered severe damage to his lower right leg from a gunshot wound.

He was listed in fair condition, but suffered severe vascular damage from the gunshot wound and might lose his leg, according to a police report.

Police are still looking for the shooter.

Bettison was in the Cuttin' It Up barbershop, 2135 Litchfield Ave., at about 4 p.m. when a man walked in and fired one shot.

It's not the first time a shooting has occurred there.

On New Year's Eve 2005, Donta Colter, 31, of Trotwood, was shot to death in the barbershop's bathroom.

Tuesday's shooting was a targeted attack, Dayton police Sgt. Wendy Stiver said. The owner of a nearby business said he heard one shot fired and then saw a black male walk out of the barbershop while pointing a gun inside.

The shooter then got into a bluish-gray car, witnesses said.

Two men inside the barbershop said they helped Bettison into a car so he could be rushed to nearby Good Samaritan Hospital.

Bettison was later transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

Officers found a 10mm shell casing in the barbershop, according to the police report. Officers also found a 9mm Taurus handgun in a storage room of the shop, along with a .38 caliber special revolver underneath a sweatshirt.

Police also found a "large piece of what appeared to be crack cocaine" next to a bicycle on the barbershop's front porch, according to the report.
