XENIA — While others were celebrating Independence Day, a Mississippi Drive man was being treated on Friday, July 4, at Miami Valley Hospital after being run down by his car in his driveway, according to police.

Several police cars, two fire trucks and an ambulance responded to a call about a pedestrian struck by a car at 2511 Mississippi Drive, police and witnesses said.

However Xenia Police Sgt. Pete Wiza said the investigation determined the unidentified man suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries after failing to put his car in park before getting out about 6 p.m., July 4.

"It ended up backing over him," Wiza said.

On Saturday, it was unclear if the man remained in the hospital.
