CEDARVILLE TWP., Greene County — Greene County Sheriff's deputies are still piecing together how an 11-year-old boy died after being pinned underneath the tire of a tractor he was operating.

A farmer driving by the Pitstick Farm at 3008 Tobias Road on a tractor noticed Austin Pitstick pinned underneath the tractor's tire and called 911 at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10.

The boy was driving the tractor on his grandparents farm when the incident happened, according to sheriff's Capt. Eric Spicer.

Spicer said Friday that investigators are still talking with family members and the farmer who called 911 to determine what caused Pitstick's death and how long he had been pinned underneath the tractor.

Spicer said the tractor did not roll over on the boy.

The Greene County Coroner's office was conducting the autopsy and did not have results Friday afternoon.

Pitstick was found about 100 yards from his grandparents' house. He lives with his mother, but was at the farm helping out, according to family friends.

Pitstick, a fifth-grader at Indian Valley Middle School in Enon, was involved in programs at St. Paul Catholic Church in Yellow Springs. He showed hogs at the Clark County fair and loved farming, according to family friends.

Cedarville Township is a heavily-farmed area located less than 10 miles from Xenia, the county's seat.

Cedarville Police Chief Chris Gillaugh said the incident was "tragic" and a lot of young people in the area work on farms.

Ohio has no law on minimum age to operate farm equipment.
