KINGS MILLS — Greeneview Local Schools Superintendent Valerie Browning has accepted an offer from Kings Local Schools to be the district's new superintendent, according to school officials.

Board President Hale Husband said that, since Browning is still under contract, the Greeneview board will need to vote to release her from the district. He expects that to happen by Aug. 15.

Kings will call a special school board meeting next week for the board to vote to hire Browning, said Husband.

He said Browning accepted the district's offer Friday, July 18, to replace retiring superintendent Chuck Mason.

Former Edgewood City Schools Superintendent Tom York was the other finalist for the Kings job. Browning and York were not immediately available for comment Monday, July 21.

Greeneview Local Schools, located in Jamestown in Greene County, has about 1,500 students. There are about 3,275 students in the Kings district.

"I think we have an outstanding candidate," Husband said. "It's gonna be something great," Husband said.

He added that Browning would be challenged to update the Kings district's curriculum and prepare to campaign for an operating levy for 2009.
