Woman charged with stabbing boyfriend to death

PIQUA — A Piqua woman is charged with first-degree murder in the Friday, July 18, stabbing of her boyfriend during his birthday celebration in Lee County, Va.

The Lee County Sheriff's Department said Michael Meeker, 25, formerly of Piqua, died after he was stabbed with a steak knife at the home of his brother in the Dot area of the county.

Amber Marie Nash, 25, is being held without bail at the Duffield Regional Jail in Virginia.

Deputies said the investigation so far shows Nash and Meeker had been arguing all evening when the verbal argument escalated into violence.

Deputies said they were alerted to the stabbing by a caller who said the victim was being transported to the Lee Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. Meeker's brother, Joe, loaded him into the vehicle to head to the hospital, but the vehicle broke down and he had to flag down a passing motorist for help to the hospital, deputies said.

Nash's address is listed as both Piqua and Virginia.

Bruce Jamison, deputy Piqua police chief, said Tuesday local police records showed more than 20 contacts each with Michael Meeker and Nash since 2003.

The most recent call involving both was July 11 when Piqua police were called to a domestic dispute between Nash and her mother, Jamison said. Meeker was with Nash at the time of that report, he said. No one was charged after police could not identify a primary aggressor, Jamison said.
