TROTWOOD — Police want to talk with the guardian of 3-year-old Hope Dawn Cook, who died Sunday.
Police spoke with Kimberly Cook-Terrill, Hope's half-sister, the day of the death but need to speak with her again, Sgt. Erik Wilson said Thursday, July 24.
"She is not returning our calls. We went out to her residence but have been unable to contact her," Wilson said. "We need to talk with her in-depth to find out what happened Sunday."
Hope's death is being investigated as suspicious, Wilson said.
"That covers a multitude of things. It's something that needs to be looked into."
Police were notified by Children's Medical Center late Sunday night of the death. The child, suffering from seizures, had been taken to the hospital that evening by Trotwood Fire and Rescue.
Initial reports from the hospital said the child had skull fractures, the sergeant said. Police are awaiting autopsy results.
According to the Sunday 9-1-1 call from a neighbor, the child was laying on the floor having seizures but breathing. The caller said the child had been in the bathtub prior to the seizures.
According to Wilson, Preble County Children's Services had placed Hope with her half-sister.
