XENIA — Sanchez Lovett will spend nine months behind bars for his part in a fight that led to a shooting death of the Fairborn man.
Lovett, known on the streets of Xenia and Fairborn as "Spice," pleaded guilty Wednesday, July 23, to aggravated assault in Greene County Common Pleas Court, and received a nine-month sentence. He was given credit for 72 days served in jail.
Lovett is a key witness in the murder case against 15-year-old Robert Grimes Jr. who is accused of shooting Marco Porter through the heart on May 11, while he was visiting friends at 914 E. Second St. in Xenia.
The 30-year-old Lovett testified at a juvenile court hearing in June that as he struggled with Jason Allen, Grimes pulled a revolver and shot Porter while the four men fought on the porch of the home.
Grimes had an ongoing dispute with Porter and Allen, which Lovett came to 914 E. Second St. to try to resolve.
Both Lovett and Grimes hid from police for a little more than a day before being arrested in Wilberforce. The two were held on weapons charges more than a month before Grimes was charged with murder in June.
Information from Lovett led to those charges, prosecutors have said.
The felony charge of having weapons under disability against Lovett was dropped in exchange for his guilty plea. He could be called to testify at hearings concerning Grimes, said Stephen K. Haller, Greene County prosecutor.
Juvenile court officials
are completing a psychological evaluation of Grimes before Judge Robert Hutcheson decides if
Grimes should be tried as an adult for allegedly killing Porter.
