TROTWOOD — A Dayton man is dead and his brother injured after witnesses say a guest shot them at a family gathering in Trotwood on Saturday, July 26.

James Glascoe, 41, of Dayton was shot to death and his 36-year-old brother, whose name was not released, was injured. Trotwood Police are conducting a homicide investigation of an incident that occurred at 3393 Snyder Road at 9 p.m.

Trotwood Police Sgt. Mike Vickers said his department responded to a report of shots fired and reports that three people might have been hit, he said.

Upon arrival they found two people shot in the chest, Glascoe and his younger brother.

Vickers said at a family barbecue or gathering a disturbance or disagreement arose and a man brandished a firearm and fired shots in the air. Then, two other firearms were brandished by others, he said.

The two brothers were shot by the same person, he said. James Glascoe was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital. His brother was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. It appears "he's going to make it," Vickers said.

When police arrived, other family members were holding down a 53-year-old man, who was a guest at the gathering, but not a family member. Witnesses identified him as the shooter, Vickers said.

That man, who had lacerations to the face, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment and was still there under guard on Sunday, he said.

Vickers said Trotwood police detectives are still conducting interviews and expect to present that information to the county prosecutor at the first part of the week for possible charges, he said.

Montgomery County Coroner's investigator Tom Lawson said his office is conducting an autopsy on Glascoe's body.
