BUTLER TWP., Montgomery County — An 11-year-old boy reported missing on Tuesday afternoon, July 29, was found safe roughly eight hours later in a wooded area about 200 yards from his home, Butler Twp. police said.
Police received a call from the boy's mother about 2:30 p.m. reporting him as missing, Police Chief Danny Hobbs said.
The boy, whom Hobbs said has run away before, became upset with his parents and walked away from the family home in the 7600 block of Dog Leg Road in an unknown direction.
Police and a special search and rescue unit that uses dogs began searching wooded areas to the south and west of the residence, Hobbs said.
Police Capt. Carl Bush said the search team located the boy about 9 p.m. He was not injured.
Bush said police would speak with the boy and his parents today to learn why the boy ran away.
