DAYTON — The National Weather Service predicts showers and thunderstorms for the afternoon of Wednesday, July 30.
But the big weather story for the next few days is heat and humidity. Temperatures will reach the upper 80s Wednesday through Friday with afternoon dewpoints in the mid-60s.
The dewpoint is a measure related to humidity, and dewpoints in the 60s tend to feel muggy and uncomfortable. Dewpoints of 70 or higher can feel oppressive.
The upcoming weekend will be even worse than the next few days, the weather service predicts. The high for Saturday should reach 91 with an evening dewpoint of 70. Sunday may be the hottest day of the year so far with a predicted high of 94 and an evening dewpoint of 66.
There's not much relief in sight early next week with a predicted high of 93 for Monday and 89 for Tuesday.
There's a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, mainly after noon, but most areas should get only a moderate amount of rain from a tenth to a quarter inch.
There's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms returning in the evening mainly before 11 p.m., and again the amounts of rain should be moderate.
Thursday will bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day.
Friday through Tuesday will be sunny to mostly sunny and hot.
