DAYTON — Police caught a lucky break Monday, Aug. 4, when they interrupted a dice game.

But a 17-year-old who ended up shot in the leg wasn't quite as fortunate.

Dayton Sgt. John Sullivan said that two officers riding together turned a corner about 5:30 p.m. and saw about 20 people start to run away from 2903 Wexford Place, off of McCabe Avenue, in the Hilltop Homes housing complex.

At that moment, a shot rang out and the 17-year-old was hit in the upper part of his leg.

Upon closer inspection, the wound wasn't as serious as it could have been and was considered a flesh wound, Sullivan said.

The teen was taken by ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was reportedly in good condition. He told police he didn't know who shot him.

At the scene, police found an inexpensive handgun as well as a pair of dice, Sullivan said.
