DAYTON — Angela Hild went out of her way to help a young woman in her English class who was in an abusive relationship, Hild's English instructor said Tuesday, Aug. 26.
"I remember one student who was fresh out of high school and there was some stalking going on," said Laura Elizabeth, an adjunct English instructor at Sinclair Community College. "Angela walked the young woman to her car in the parking garage. She said nobody should be afraid."
Police are afraid for Hild's well-being. She has been missing since Thursday, Aug. 21, when she failed to pick up her 5-year-old son from school.
Police believe Hild's husband, 43-year-old Michael Hild, abducted her Thursday and fled the area in his green Chevrolet Impala. On Saturday, He died in a gun battle with Melbourne, Fla., police following an apparent hit-and-run accident.
She took Elizabeth's English 112 class in spring 2007.
Hild "stood out because she seemed to be almost fighting so hard for her education," Elizabeth said.
"She just seemed to be under financial or time restrictions."
Still, Hild "went above and beyond" in her assignments, Elizabeth said, adding "she would be friendly, but she would say what she thought."
Dayton police Sgt. Tom Flanders said Michael Hild was violent and known to carry guns in his prosthetic leg. He lost his real leg in a gunfight with Michigan police years ago.
Michael Hild was in prison twice, once in 1985 and again in 1992, on burglary convictions and receiving stolen property.
The Hilds had been married since 2001. Montgomery County court records show Angela filed for divorce in 2004, but reconsidered six months later.
She obtained a temporary protection order against her husband on Sunday, Aug. 17.
