TIPP CITY — A 62-year-old Tipp City man charged with attempted murder is being held on $500,000 bail after police said he fired a revolver at a man he knows outside the Bellview Court Apartments early Thursday, Aug. 28.

Danny R. Linkous was arrested shortly after 8 a.m. after police received a call about a man with a gun outside the apartments just north of Main Street .

Sgt. Chris Graham said the man encountered one neighbor without incident.

That neighbor called 911 when another neighbor drove up in a truck and Linkous allegedly leveled the gun and shot, missing the man, he said.

Police arrived "relatively quick" and took the man with the gun to the ground, Graham said.

No one was injured. Linkous was taken to the Miami County Jail.

When police returned to the apartments to get medication for Linkous on Thursday afternoon, they were told by neighbors that the apartment might be booby trapped. Between 15 and 25 residents within a one block area were evacuated while the Dayton Bomb Squad and bomb detection dogs checked the apartment, Graham said. Nothing was found.

Graham said there was no need to lock down or take special measures at nearby schools.

"At no point were the schools in any type of danger," Graham said.

Bail for Linkous was set Friday, Aug. 29, in county Municipal Court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 4.
