DAYTON — Three award-winning political cartoonists will help Kids Voting Dayton and the Dayton Daily News honor Mike Peters and his 40 years of cartooning with a roast and toast at Kids Voting's annual Bipartisan Bash on Oct. 19.
"Mike has been a longtime supporter of Kids Voting and has lent his talents to Kids Voting as a political cartoon judge, an illustrator and spokesperson for several public service announcements, so it is only natural to honor him at the Bash," said Doris Ponitz, Bash Committee co-chair and Kids Voting founder.
This year's Bash will feature cartoonists Mike Luckovich of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jim Borgman of The Cincinnati Enquirer and Chip Bok of the Akron Beacon Journal, who will poke, prod and praise Peters with stories and drawings.
The Bipartisan Bash presented by Dayton Power and Light is Kids Voting's largest annual fundraiser.
Peters began his career as an editorial cartoonist at the Dayton Daily News in 1969 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1981. He also draws the popular comic strip Mother Goose and Grimm.
Kids Voting is partnering with the Dayton Daily News to honor Peters. Kids Voting wanted to recognize him for his long years of friendship and service. The Daily News wishes to make special note of his 40th year with the newspaper.
