X-Fest 13 lost its headliner Wednesday when the lead singer of Avenged Sevenfold was ordered to give his voice a weeklong break.
X-Fest promoters quickly replaced the band with two acts that have appeared there in the past: Hinder and Theory of a Dead Man.
Eleven bands are scheduled to perform on two stages during the festival, which starts at noon Sunday at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
Avenged Sevenfold, also known as A7X, was the main act for Sunday's all-day music festival, but rumors of an X-Fest no-show swirled through cyberspace Wednesday, Sept. 10, until being confirmed with an on-air announcement on WXEG-FM 103.9 about 4 p.m.
A7X had canceled several performances in the U.K. last month because of singer M. Shadows' vocal strain, but the band returned to the stage Saturday, Sept. 6, only to be told Shadows' voice needed an extra week of rest, a week that runs right up to X-Fest.
Shadows has had problems with his vocal chords in the past, dropping his signature screamed vocals almost completely from his repertoire following the 2003 album "Waking The Fallen."

I’m really bummed that A7X isn’t coming - they are the best band since Metallica. I’m a middle-aged mom and hope they’ll be back soon.

I have never gone to X-fest in previous years (no money, commitments, etc.) but I will definitely be there this year. I think the line-up is great.

SteveS - you make the journey back to Dayton to see X Fest???? Why? This isn’t exclusive to Dayton, this show goes all over the country… why not see it at one of the 10 places these bands are playing in CA?

I think its amusing that this lead singer screams his vocals and now has to cancel shows due to “voice strain.” ya think?

Not as good of a line up as the previous 2 years, but A7X was never one of my favorite bands. I maybe will still go, cause I love Cadlebox (yes I am old) but I hope next year’s line up is better.

I think the line up is great…There are a lot of new bands and new hit out there this year and we’ll get a good teaste of them all. Where else can you find 11 bands for so little a cost. Even with A7X dropping out it is still going to rock. I’ll be there with a beer in my hand, wife by my side and enjoy the music and the eye candy…ROCKON

This years line up seems pretty weak to me compared to years past. I now live in CA but for the past couple of years have made the pilgrimage back to Dayton (and believe me FOR NO OTHER REASON) to attend the X-fest show. But after seeing this years line up decided to for go the trip and will instead spend that weekend in Lake Tahoe/Reno probably lossing my a*s playting poker.
