Springboro city hall phones still down
Wednesday, September 17, 2008
SPRINGBORO — With about 14,000 people without power, Springboro city hall isn't hearing from people, at least by phone at city hall — phone service is still down Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Officials said the 911 system is functioning, but only for emergencies.
While crews were expected to bring some customers back up in coming days, the entire city isn't expect to be with power until the end of the weekend, Public Works Director Barry Conway said.
All streets were cleared, but employees were working overtime managing debris brought to North Park and generators powering water and wastewater plants, Conway said.
Twigs and brush may be cut and bundled for regular trash pick-up. For debris too large for pick-up, the city has established a dump site at the entrance to North Park on Tamarack Trail that will accept debris through Sunday, Sept. 21. On Thursday and Friday, Sept. 18-19, the city will pick up any remaining debris left at the curb. The city cannot enter private property for debris.
All water and sewer systems are fully operational and no boil advisories have been issued at this time, Springboro officials said..
In Clearcreek Twp., Administrator Dennis Pickett estimated about half of residents have power, with outages concentrated in the southeastern part of the township. All roads except Red Lion-Five Points have been cleared.
