DAYTON — A Sidney man who hoarded more than 12,000 illicit images of children on his home computer pleaded guilty Thursday, Sept. 18, to one count of child pornography possession.
Carson Trader, 61, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, along with at least five years and up to lifetime supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sexual offender.
U.S. Senior District Judge Walter H. Rice set Trader's sentencing for Dec. 12.
According to a statement of facts filed with the plea agreement, agents went to Trader's residence on March 6, 2007, as part of an investigation originating in Michigan. The agents asked to search Trader's computer, where they found child pornography.
Further examination of the computer at the Miami Valley Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory found that Trader possessed about 12,750 images of child pornography. His collection included material depicting sadistic and masochistic conduct and other images depicting violence .
Trader had downloaded the images over the Internet. He also traded images with other child pornography collectors, using the screen name "kinkyohiomale45," according to the statement of facts.
Gregory G. Lockhart, United States attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, commended the investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Clemmens, who prosecuted the case.
Lockhart said the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
