Monday, Sept. 29, will mark the end of a couple weeks of unusually warm and dry weather for September, and the next week will begin feeling a lot more like fall, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service center in Wilmington.

Meteorologist Andy Hatzos said a cold front was hovering over the upper Mississippi River valley Monday morning, and that front will sweep through the Dayton area Monday evening bringing a chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms.

Monday afternoon's high temperature will be about 80, continuing the pattern for September when temperatures most days were above normal for this time of year.

But the weather service predicts that the high for Tuesday, Sept. 30, will only reach about 67, and highs for the rest of the week through Friday will be in the lower 60s.

Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 80 and an overnight low around 56. There's a chance of showers before 11 p.m., but the heaviest rain is likely to be between 11 p.m. and midnight with a chance of more showers after midnight. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch will be the most rain that has fallen in the area since Sept. 13 with more than three quarters of an inch fell.

There will be a 20 percent chance of showers Tuesday before noon. The high tomorrow will be about 67, and the low Tuesday night will drop to around 47.

Wednesday through Friday will see highs in the lower 60s and overnight lows around 44. Light rains are possible Wednesday, but the rest of the period should be dry.

The weather service says the weekend will be mostly sunny and a little warmer with highs near 66 on Saturday on 70 on Sunday.

My favorite time of year is winter, because of the snow! It makes everything look pretty, and it’s a time to snuggle up under the warm blankets!
