ADAMS TWP., Darke County — Officials have used dental records to positively identify a body found Saturday, Oct. 4, in a state wildlife area along U.S. 36 as Michael Eberwein of Greenville, the county sheriff's office reported.

Eberwein, who would have turned 51 on Monday, was reported missing Sept. 12. Authorities found his body near a vehicle in the woods in the 7400 block of U.S. 36 East after hunters reported an abandoned vehicle in the woods.

Sheriff's Det. Sgt. Mark Whittaker said it appears Eberwein died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The cause and manner of death is pending forensic testing of evidence at the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab in Dayton.
