FAIRBORN — Dr. Barbara L. Schuster, an internist and medical educator at Wright State University's Boonshoft School of Medicine, has been hired to head up the newest campus of the Medical College of Georgia.

Schuster on Wednesday, Oct. 15, was named campus dean of the Medical College of Georgia/University of Georgia Medical Partnership Campus in Athens, Ga.

Schuster came to Wright State in September 1995 to become the chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. She was chair from Sept. 1, 1995, to June 30, 2007. She also was professor of internal medicine and in 2007 became a professor of geriatrics.

Schuster will begin her new job Nov. 1. She will prepare the new Athens, Ga., satellite campus of the Augusta-based Medical College of Georgia for its first class of students, who are expected to enroll in 2010.

The expansion is part of the college's plans to increase its class size 60 percent to 1,200 by 2020 to help address a doctor shortage in Georgia.
