COLUMBUS — The 128th General Assembly opened for business last week and if you were looking for members from Dayton and Montgomery County you probably needed a program.

Quick: Who's the county's senior legislator in the House? Forget Jon Husted, the former Republican speaker who's moved to the Senate. The new dean of the House delegation is Clayton Luckie, a Dayton Democrat serving his third term.

Four of the five Montgomery County House districts have new representatives.

Leadership of the House has shifted from Republicans to Democrats, who now are in control, 53-46. Local power, however, still rests with the Republicans.

Luckie and new state Rep. Roland Winburn, D-Harrison Twp., are the only two Democrats from Montgomery County, as well as the only two Democrats among 17 House members from the Miami Valley.

Luckie said the area's voice would be heard by new Democratic Speaker Armond Budish, from the Cleveland suburb of Beachwood. "He's very easy to talk to. He understands what Dayton is going through," said Luckie, who said he is part of Budish's leadership circle.

The faces are more familiar in the Senate. The area's two new members — Husted and Springfield Republican Chris Widener — both moved over from the House. Republicans remain in control of the Senate, 21-12.

A scorecard of local members is listed below. If you're not sure who your representative or senator is, visit www.house.state.oh.us and www.senate.state.oh.us/senators/
