BROOKVILLE — Plans are under way to once again bring a Christmastime light and music display to Golden Gate Park.
At the Oct. 21 meeting of Brookville City Council, Roger Hoover, a member of the Brookville Park Board and the Brookville Optimist Club presented preliminary plans for the event.
"We've redesigned some things for this year, improved on some other things and added some new activities," Hoover said.
The event will kick off Nov. 29 and then run weekends through Dec. 28.
The program, 2008 Christmas Knights at Golden Gate Park, will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
Hoover said the lighted display castle will be placed in the center of the park, and a $10 per-carload donation is being requested. Profits will be shared by Brookville area service clubs and the Brookville Park Board.
Asked if cars not paying the donation will be asked to leave, Hoover replied, "We will not turn anyone away."
In other business, City Manager John Wright received approval for two change orders concerning two recent construction projects in the city. Both change orders actually decrease costs for the projects.
Also, some painting work was eliminated from a project on Mulberry Street where a greenspace/park was created, trimming $1,074 from the cost, dropping the final price to $34,642.15.
Grading and painting also was eliminated from a project at Golden Gate Park, trimming $2,490 from the cost, dropping the final price to $45,570.55.
Both projects were partially funded through Ohio Nature Works grants.
Council also approved a one-year extension of a recycling contract with Rumpke Waste Systems.
Brookville Law Director Rod Stephan was asked by Councilman Bruce Garber to look into drafting regulations on wind turbine generastors and solar panels on homes.
Council also approved two zoning change ordinances.
One, in its third reading, changed from Industrial-2 to Highway Service a piece of property in the Brookville Industrial Park, on West Campus Boulevard near the recently constructed Payless distribution center.
The second rezoning is for two pieces of land on Upper Lewisburg-Salem Road near Albert Road.
The change is to Residential-1B. That ordinance received its second reading.
Council also approved in emergency fashion a yearly housekeeping measure adopting replacement pages for the Brookville Codified Ordinances.
The next meeting of Brookville City Council is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Council Chambers of the Brookville Government Center, 301 Sycamore St. in Brookville.
