Three Mason High School boys lacrosse players are going national.

Taylor Craig, Scott Spencer and Derek Henson have been selected to participate in the adidas National Lacrosse Classic at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown, Md., Friday, July 18, through Sunday, July 20.

The trio tried out for the Midwest region team June 10 at Upper Arlington High School, and were chosen to be on the 25-man roster.

There are four regional teams per pool, and two teams from each pool qualify for the Elite Eight. Midwest is in Pool B.

"I think it's an outstanding event for these kids," Mason coach Randy Hubbard said. "It's good for our program. They are really good players."

• Craig, a senior-to-be midfielder, scored 15 goals and dished out nine assists this past season for the Comets.

"I think it's awesome," Craig said. "You go out there and you've got a bunch of the nation's best playing against you and with you, and there's a lot of college coaches watching. It's good exposure.

"It's a good opportunity; I'll seize the moment."

Craig did not start playing lacrosse until his freshman year, but his size (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) and athleticism have helped him get acclimated to the game.

"The athleticism kicked in and the stick skills came after," Craig said. "Currently, my stick skills are still getting better. I don't have a really good left hand still. That can still be developed. I still have a lot more room for improvement and I think I'll get a lot better."

• Spencer, a junior-to-be goalie, had a .635 save percentage and 176 saves as a sophomore.

"I'm excited because of the college aspect — recruiting," Spencer, "and being recognized as one of the best in the region. It's also a great opportunity to play against the best in the country."

The 5-10 Spencer is one of two goalies on the roster.

• Henson, a sophomore-to-be midfielder, scored six goals this past spring.

"It means a lot because the title of it — 500 best national players," Henson said. "I feel honored."
