Austin Landing hosts U.S.-ranked Miami Twp. National Night Out

Austin Landing will host one of the top National Night Out programs in the country next week when the Miami Twp. Police Department hosts its event there.

The township PD’s program, set for Tuesday, is ranked fifth in the U.S. by the National Association of Town Watch for communities with populations ranging from 15,000 to 50,000.

Here are some key numbers related to Miami Twp.’s program:

-4: Communities in the U.S. ranked higher. They include Bartlett, Ill., Sanford, N.C., Coppell, Texas and New Brighton, Minn.

-9-plus: Outside entities set to participate at Austin Landing. They include the U.S. Army, the Girl Scouts, the Dayton Police Department, and Montgomery County representatives from the Prosecutor's Office, the Animal Resource Center, the Drug-Free Coalition, as well as Skyline Chili, and "a lot of others," according to Police Capt. John Magill.

-17: Block parties planned in the township for the night. Aside from the event at Austin Landing, new this year is one at Reeder Park.

-24: Years the township has participated in the event.

-365: The number associated with the project the police department highlights for the event. This year's Project 365 focuses on distracted driving. A department cruiser hit earlier this year by a distracted driver on Interstate 75 will be part of the event.
