A Dayton police officer shot a dog that reportedly charged at him during a medical emergency call on Deeds Avenue early Sunday morning.

According to a police report, police and medics were responding to a report of an unresponsive toddler at a home in the 400 block of Deeds at about 1:30 a.m.

As an officer was trying to get a truck to move so the ambulance could get through, he reported two dogs, that appeared to be pit bulls, ran around the house and charged the officer.

He shot one and missed the other, but both ran off.

The report does not indicate if the dog who was shot lived or not.

Four people who live in the home were issued summons to appear on charges of failure to control dogs.

They were Shannon Marie Ferguson, 18; Harry James Fisher Jr., 34; D'Angelo Cosper, 20; and Sherrone M. Cord, 38. None were booked into jail.

The officer was not injured.
