Piqua woman killed in pedestrian crash

The woman killed in a pedestrian crash has been identified as 61-year-old Mary L. Yeretzian of Piqua.

The crash occurred on Riverside Drive near the intersection with North Main Street.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The driver who was involved in the incident has not been formally charged, police said. No word yet on what caused the crash but police are still investigating.

UPDATE @ 12:05 a.m. (May 29) 

Piqua police said a 61-year-old woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck near the intersection of Riverside Drive and County Road 25A Sunday night.

Investigators said the victim was walking in the roadway when she was hit by the truck.

The woman’s identity was not released, pending notification of family.

Factors in the crash are unknown, and police are unsure why the victim was walking in the roadway.

Police did not say if the driver was facing any charges.

FIRST REPORT (May 28)

Police are investigating a crash tonight involving a pedestrian.

The crash was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. at Riverside Drive and North Main Street (County Road 25A), according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office dispatch. County Road 25A is shut down in the area of the crash.

The Piqua Police Department is investigating the incident, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Piqua Post is assisting at the crash scene.

The extent of injuries suffered by the pedestrian has not been released, nor has information about what led to the crash.
