Top AFRL civil leader to retire

The top civilian leader of the Air Force Research Laboratory will retire from the high-level post Friday.

C. Douglas Ebersole has worked as an Air Force civil service employee for 35 years, most recently as a senior executive at AFRL where he managed a more than $4 billion budget and more than 6,000 scientists and engineers.

AFRL is headquartered at Wright-Patterson and four of its nine directorates —Aerospace Systems, Materials and Manufacturing, Sensors, and the 711th Human Performance Wing are located on the base.

The Purdue University graduate started at the Aeronautical Systems Division in 1982 at Wright-Patterson and rose to the director of the Aerospace Systems Directorate before becoming the top civilian leader.

The Air Force has not yet announced a successor.
