The newest restaurant expected at Austin Landing is also an award-winning craft brewer.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse will open off Austin Boulevard, just east of the new Interstate 75 interchange around which more than $150 million in development is planned or in place, according to developer RG Properties.

The addition of BJ’s adds to “a huge explosion in the number of breweries” in the Miami Valley, according to Rick Armon, an Akron Beacon Journal reporter and author of the book, “Ohio Breweries.”

BJ’s has 130 restaurant-bars around the country, including in suburban Columbus and Cincinnati.

In the Dayton area, BJ’s joins a market that has seven microbrewery-brewpubs planned or in place.

BJ’s has a great reputation, Armon said. “They’ve won a lot of awards for their beer.”

BJ’s also offers a full menu, including deep-dish pizza.

“BJ’s is a great restaurant and provides a memorable atmosphere,” said RG Properties President Randy Gunlock. “Personally, my family and I have eaten there many times, and I think the restaurant will be a great addition to the community here at Austin Landing.”

A Kohl’s department store, Kroger supermarket, Hilton Garden Inn and three office buildings have opened at Austin Landing. Other restaurants expected to come to the development include Rue Dumaine, Alligator Annie’s, The Dublin 7 Whiskey Pub, Panera Bread and Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

By the end 2013, RG is also expected to complete a Regal cinema and a village including stores, offices and residences.
