CENTERVILLE — Aeroseal, a Centerville-based air duct sealing company, was part of a project that received a 2012 EBie Award for environmental performance improvements made to an existing building.

New York-based building consultants Steven Winter Associates (SWA) received the award for a building renovation project that combined Aeroseal duct sealing technology together with self-balancing constant airflow regulators from American Aides to dramatically reduce energy usage. The project, completed in 2008, was a 50-year-old multi-family apartment building in Caldwell, N.J.

Aeroseal was used to effectively seal leaks throughout the building’s 25 individual ventilation shafts, officials said.

“Aeroseal sealed 90 percent of the duct leakage and was instrumental in dramatically improving the floor-to-floor balancing of the ventilation system, as well,” said Mark Zuluaga, SWA’s vice president and director of multi-family energy services.

Similar projects have been implemented at more than 5,000 apartments in the New York City metropolitan region. The award was presented Thursday in a ceremony at New York’s Hard Rock Cafe.
