City, county jobless rates remain in double digits

COLUMBUS — Unemployment rates dipped slightly in July for Dayton and Montgomery County, but both rates remained in double digits for the 19th straight month, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The Dayton rate dropped to 12.8 percent in July, down from 13 percent in June. The county jobless rate dipped to 11.5 percent, down from 11.6 percent in July.

Statewide, rates in July decreased in 63 of 88 counties.

Geauga County, east of Cleveland, had the state’s lowest rate, 7.1 percent.

Clinton County, still feeling the effect of DHL-related job losses, had the highest rate, 16.7 percent.

In the Dayton area, Champaign County had the highest July rate, 11.5 percent, while Warren County, at 9.1 percent, had the lowest rate.

Among area cities, Trotwood’s 13.7 percent rate was the highest, while Mason’s 8 percent rate was the lowest.

City and county rates are not seasonally adjusted. The seasonally adjusted and not-seasonally-adjusted rates for Ohio both were 10.3 percent in July.
