Company investing $1M in school/plant home

Vaughn Interior Concepts will invest about $1 million into its 140 N. Keowee St. plant, Dayton city government said Wednesday.

The Dayton-based designer and maker of commercial and residential interior designs is installing energy-saving lighting and roofing and insulation, the city said in a release.

The city expects Vaughn to add up to six jobs to its current staff of 13. The city is granting the company $80,000 from its “energy efficiency fund.”

Last June, Craig Vaughn, of Vaughn Interior Concepts, said he was purchasing the school building. The company had been in an East Third Street location for about 16 years.

At the time, Ann Higdon — founder and president of the Dayton charter school at the site, called Improved Solutions for Urban Systems (ISUS) — said the plan was for Vaughn to move some of his employees to the 190,000-square-foot Keowee site and have ISUS students work on company projects. The ISUS school was to incorporate an advanced manufacturing program at the site.

The company gives 531 E. Third as its postal address and 140 N. Keowee as its plant address.
