Dayton focus of New York Times recession story

Staff Report

The New York Times has made the Dayton region the focus of a story on the challenges facing teenagers and twenty-somethings who are seeking to enter the job market.

The story notes that more than half of the area’s manufacturing jobs — 38,000 of 79,000 — have disappeared this decade.

The report notes the loss of the GM plant in Moraine and local Delphi plants, as well as NCR’s plan to move its world headquarters to Georgia. But it notes the growth of good-paying jobs anticipated at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The story can be found at www.nytimes.com/2009/06/26/business/26grads.html?hpw
