Dayton is the third-best city in the country to find a job, according to the website CareerBliss.com. And another web site, Forbes.com, on Wednesday used some of the same data compiled by CareerBliss.com to proclaim Dayton to be the No. 1 “happiest city to work in” in the U.S.
That’s a far cry from 2008, when Forbes.com named Dayton one of America’s fastest-dying cities.
Dayton was ranked behind only Los Angeles and Tucson among the best cities to find a job, CareerBliss.com officials said in a news release. No other Ohio cities made it on the list of top 10 cities, or the list of worst 10 cities, to be looking for employment.
To compile the list, the Irvine, Calif.-based career web ite said it examined “work happiness data” collected through employee-submitted company reviews, and factored in employment trends and job openings between November 2011 and November 2012.
Chris Kershner, vice president of public policy and economic development for the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, noted that the CareerBliss and Forbes rankings are based on workforce opportunities and employee satisfaction, “and both were very positive for Dayton. That highlights that the Dayton region is a great place to work and to have a career.”
Dayton’s strong showing “is right on track with what we’ve been hearing from employers and employees,” Kershner said.
The region was likely boosted in the rankings by an unemployment rate is lower than the national average, and the Dayton area also boasts multiple resources and organizations committed to professional development of workers here, Kershner said.
