DAYTON — City government will demolish remaining infrastructure at the former NIBCO foundry site this afternoon , the city said Tuesday, Oct. 27.

City officials hope to prepare the total 45-acre site on McCall Street west of Ohio 4 for a potential industrial park , they have said.

The area once was home to an iron fittings foundry from the late 19th century until the 1980s.

In 2001, the city razed the former McCall printing plant in the area and cleaned up inks and other chemicals beneath it.

In 2002, the city purchased the property and demolished above-ground structures.

Dayton government said Tuesday that it has secured $900,000 of “Clean Ohio” funds for additional demolition work and site preparation.

Besides demolition, the work to be done will include removing contaminated soil and grading and seeding the property.

Part of the city’s plans include connecting James H. McGee Boulevard south to Germantown Street, which is also Ohio 4. U.S. 35 and interstates 70 and 75 would be easily accessible from there, city officials believe.

The city owns about 60 acres in the area, which in January included a 300,000-square-foot Misa Metals building.

Demolition work is scheduled to start 2:30 p.m. today, the city said.

Based in Elkhart, Ind., NIBCO has manufacturing and distribution operations for its Dura-Pex tubing products in a 130,000-square-foot building off Henkle Drive in Lebanon.

Demolition work is scheduled to start 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the city said.
