Fiber network company expands Ohio presence

Staff Report

A Colorado-based fiber network provider says it has expanded in Southern Ohio, including in the Dayton area.

Level 3 Communications, Inc. said it is “enhancing its local presence in South Ohio,” including the Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton areas.

The company offers “a combination of its extensive backbone network, metro fiber-optic footprint, and a locally focused sales and customer support team,” it said in an announcement today, Feb. 19.

A spokesman for the Broomfield, Colo.-based company couldn’t be immediately reached.

Level 3 has nearly 400 miles of fiber in South Ohio. The company pledged to add bandwidth to the network and will expand the number of businesses connected to this network. As of Dec. 31, 2008, the company had about 67,000 inner-city route miles in North America.

The expansion started in mid-2009, the company said.
