Goodrich donates historic aircraft to Troy museum

Staff Report

TROY — Goodrich Corp., which makes wheel assemblies and brakes for aircraft, is donating a 1929 biplane to the WACO Historical Society.

The Model CTO Taperwing plane, manufactured by the old WACO Aircraft Co. in Troy, was once owned by air racer Joe Mackey, an internationally known competitor who won the top prize at the 1936 Paris Air Show. The WACO company built hundreds of aircraft, including more than 80 models, from the 1920s through 1940s at a Troy plant.

Goodrich acquired Mackey’s Taperwing in 1993, restored it and has had it flown at air shows across the country.

Officials of Goodrich and WACO Historical Society scheduled a ceremony Monday, Feb. 22, at the Historical WACO Field, home of the society’s museum, to make the donation.
