Grandview Medical Center said Thursday it had received Dayton Power & Light’s largest business rebate yet for an energy efficiency upgrade that replaced a 30-year-old cooling system with a new geothermal design.

Grandview said that with the upgrade, it qualified for DP&L’s custom rebate for existing buildings program and received a rebate of $342,771.

The program is for innovative or complex equipment or process changes that will reduce energy consumption and energy demand, Grandview said. Under this program, the customer must prove that project will save energy and the rebate value varies depending on the amount of kilowatt hours and kilowatts saved.

Grandview’s facilities staff estimates annual electrical cost savings of $250,000 because it will get reductions in energy use of 3.1 million kilowatt hours per year. Also, the hospital estimates an additional annual savings of $46,500 previously spent on cooling tower chemicals and maintenance.

“We thank the Ohio Hospital Association and DP&L for sponsoring and supporting the energy conservation program that made this rebate possible,” Grandview President Richard Haas said.

The hospital added that it is completing construction on a five-story West Wing. The medical center’s leadership viewed the expansion as an opportunity to become more energy efficient and reduce long-term utility costs.
