Green on agenda at convention center

A two-day conference on green energy and attendant jobs will be held in Dayton in two weeks.

Hosted by Green Energy Ohio and the Dayton Development Coalition, “Ohio Leads the Way: Green Market and Green Jobs” will be held at the Dayton Convention Center Feb. 11-12.

The first day of the convention will be devoted to speakers and workshops. The second day will be free and open to the public, focusing on consumer needs, training and educational opportunities.

Speakers for the first day will include Denis George, corporate energy director for Kroger Co.; Mark Williams, president and chief executive for Elements IV Interiors; Woody Woodruff Jr., facilities management director for Sinclair Community College and others.

A speaker from Air Force Research Laboratory, headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, has been invited.

Discussion topics will include wind power, solar, biomass and more.

“We will have some major players in energy fields,” said Chris Meyer, energy programs director for the Dayton Development Coalition.

Bill Spratley, executive director for Green Energy Ohio — a Columbus-based non-profit which advocates the use of renewable fuels — said holding the convention in Dayton makes sense. Last year, the organization doubled its number of Dayton-area solar-powered sites in its solar tour.

“We have a big volunteer base here,” Spratley said.

To register for the Feb. 11 events, go to www.greenenergyohio.org. The Feb. 12 events are open to the public.
