Honda recalls nearly 650K cars

Staff Report

Honda Motor Co. is recalling 646,000 units of its Fit/Jazz and City automobile models, including 140,000 in the United States, the company said Friday Jan. 29.

The models weren’t assembled in Ohio, said Ron Lietzke, a spokesman for Honda of America Manufacturing.

“They’re not produced here in North America,” Lietzke said.

With 14,000 Ohio employees, Honda has assembly and engine plants in Marysville, East Liberty, Anna and elsewhere.

Honda wants to examine window switches that can overheat when exposed to liquids, potentially causing smoke, melting or fire, the company said.

Earlier this week, Toyota recalled more than two million vehicles due to problems with accelerator assemblies made by Elkhart, Ind.-based CTS Corp.
