DAYTON — The University of Dayton’s Institute for Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology (IDCAST) is hosting an open house at its new Tech Town home Monday, Aug. 31.

The public is invited, said Larrell Walters, IDCAST director. The event will be at the Creative Technology Accelerator building, at the northeast corner of Monument Avenue and Taylor Street.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and a hoped-for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle flyover, Walters said. IDCAST also will showcase some of its technology, including feeds from surveillance instrumentation based on the 23rd floor of the Kettering Tower, he said.

Walters hopes to offer an update on IDCAST’s work at 1:30 p.m. The open house should wrap up by about 2:30 p.m.

IDCAST assists in the development and bringing to market of camera and sensor technologies for private and government clients. It’s a partner to the UD Research Institute, the Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate, Ohio State University, Wright State University, Miami University and others.

IDCAST is retaining its nearby labs at Second and Sears streets, giving it a total of 50,000 square feet of “collaborative space,” Walters said.
