BEAVERCREEK —Jack’s Pets is seeking to expand its distribution center and corporate office in Beavercreek Twp. and is planning to open a new retail store in the Beavercreek Plaza on Dayton-Xenia Road at North Fairfield Road. The projects are expected to generate 32 to 45 new jobs by the end of 2013, company president Scott Brenner said Tuesday.

The family-owned pet-supplies retailer is “seeing growth on both sides of our business, in our retail stores and in e-commerce” Brenner said of the need to expand its distribution center and offices located at 802 N. Orchard Lane. If approved, the project would expand the 65,000-square-foot facility by 30,000 square feet and would cost an estimated $1 million, Brenner said.

The company also has a site in northern Kentucky that it is considering for the expanded distribution facilities. Beavercreek Twp. trustees unanimously approved an Enterprise Zone Agreement property tax abatement incentive for the expansion project Tuesday afternoon, according to Beavercreek Twp. Administrator Alex Zaharieff.

“This is great news for the township,” Zaharieff said of the proposed expansion. “And it keeps a business that started in the Dayton area in the Dayton area.”

Brenner said company officials will meet with county officials next week about the project.

If the project receives final approvals, “We’ll be looking to break ground within 30 days of the agreement” with a goal of completing construction in early 2013, Brenner said. The company currently employs 75 at the Beavercreek Twp. center and expects to hire 20 to 30 new employees by the end of 2013 if the project goes forward.

The new retail store in Beavercreek, if approved, would be located on an outlot that previously housed a Pizza Hut in the shopping center that includes the Kroger Marketplace store. The pet supplies company would demolish the existing building and build a new store that would employ 12 to 15 people, Brenner said.

Jack’s Pets operates 28 retail stores in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and is scheduled to open a 29th store in the Cincinnati area next month, the company president said.
